Register Now for Fall Classes!!!

Intro to Sewing classes are starting on Sunday Nov 21st (1-4pm) and Wednesday Nov 24th (6-9pm). The fee for 6 weeks is $220~, which includes HST and covers all materials, patterns, notions and the use of our machines. Free studio time is always included with classes!

We have a one day Lady Gaga halloween workshop on Saturday Oct 23rd from 10am-7pm. Make your own blazer with exaggerated, pleated sleeves out of metallic or vinyl fabric! Class fee is $150

Then, on Oct 30th it's time to 'Frock and Roll'! We're making a studded, Balenciaga-inspired wool vest, a band jacket and a tutu! Class runs 1-5pm every Saturday for 8 weeks. Beginners are welcome - the projects will all be easy to follow and totally adorable! Class fee is $350 with an optional $75~ materials fee. Email themakeden@hotmail.com to register.

PACT Graduation - Summer Sewing Class Allstars

Teaching PACTfashion is one of the most fun jobs I've ever had - the kids have tonnes of energy and enthusiasm for fashion and sewing, and the graduation party is always a riot. This time we celebrated the opening of the new studio (pics to come...) on the patio and ate barbeque while we listened to M.I.A. and Lady Gaga. Madison modeled the 1950's inspired dress that we made this session, a magenta bustier with a butterfly twist on the front of it, with a black satin pencil skirt with pockets in it - it's a beauty! I always pick up a few good music tips from my students - like this awesome Lykke Li track, Little Bit. Our next Tier 2 class will be a fashion show and event management primer as we get ready for a big PACT fundraiser gala at The Koolhaus in October which will showcase all of the dresses that we've made this year for girls at Covenant House and at Bloor Collegiate. Congratulations Madison, Nikki, Tanish, Habon and Barkado!!!

Fall at 69 Vintage Collective...

This is the backyard at The Make Den this week - Kealan's picked a bunch of new fall sweaters and they're all hanging in the backyard to dry. The yard smells like a combination of wet wool, wood burning from down the street and fresh fall air.
Bring on the sweater weather!

New Studio Space...

Make Den is Moving Up!!!

Up to the top floor at 1207 Bloor St, that is. After Leah moved down the street to Ping Pong, there was a little shuffle in the house, and I got the back room on the top floor. Which means we're going to have a kitchen, big windows and a patio for summer
sunning! So excited to have some sunlight in the studio now. Moving day is tomorrow, and I'll be working all week on re-tiling, painting and decorating the new space. Above are some of the studios I'm looking at for inspiration - they're very pretty with lots of seafoam and robin's egg blue. The ones I like best are 1950's style with little punches of colour in the shelves and the lanterns hanging from the ceiling. The new space also has a giant closet, which should cut down on some of the shelving I have right now. Wish me luck!!!

Learn the proper method of marking, cutting and hand stitching a welt pocket so you have perfect edges every time! This is a great workshop for design students and serious seamstresses everywhere who want to improve their sewing skills.
