PACTfashion - Caribbean Edition!

Photobucket
Photobucket

This is Jeanette, the stylist that the PACT students have been designing with this session! Jeanette is traveling to Jamaica for Caribbean fashion week this June, with an outfit custom-made by PACTfashion for a special photoshoot for Cream Magazine! The shoot will feature Caribbean designers who are showing this June, plus the outfit made by PACTfashion. Once the clothes return from Jamaica, one lucky girl from Covenant House will be presented with her new summer party dress. Amazing!

As Prom gets closer and closer (this weekend for alot of people!), The Make Den gets busier... Sewing on bows, raising hemlines, letting in seams or taking them out - the perfect party dress is a labour of love! Check out the prom-professional in the top pic, who bought her prom dress at Buy the Pound for $8~ and then had it totally re-cut into a lace-up pencil skirt with a champagne coloured bow in the back!
The bottom two pics are from the 'Make Your Own Prom Dress' class, and Dayna and Rachel are both hard at work designing their perfect cocktail dresses for graduation*.

*Dayna is actually at Queens but the dress is getting worn to her 4th year grad party!

So Saturday mornings have been getting better and better for awhile now... What started out as an illustration class has slowly morphed into a fashion-and-everything-design-related class, where we pretty much play with fabric and make cool stuff all morning. Nobody wants to leave when class is over, including me. I'm secretly devising a plan where this is the only class I'm going to teach from now on... Saturday mornings rule.

Take part in a collaborative wearable-art project that will culminate with a spectacular crystalline headpiece, to be worn at Burning Man 2010 by the one and only Deadly Nightshades!

The Make Den is transforming! Come and watch as our little basement studio gets a facelift and is re-invented as a magical place where stalactites talk to stalagmites, where quartz keeps time and everyone is invited to try their hand at making their own crusty little crystals!

(The Deadly Nightshades, if you don't know, are Toronto's one and only All-Girl-Midnight-Riding-Fashion-Designing-Bicycle-Gang. You can check them out here)
